Last weekend I went down to Harding to pick up my daughter from college.  While we were there we wandered the campus and came upon a group of kids making a music video.  It looked fun, so we just kind of began to watch them stage everyone and what needed to be done and walk through the initial sequence.

As we were watching a lady came up and asked if we would like to be in the video, of course we quickly declined; my wife and I are well past the “college age” look!  However, she persisted and said; “we just need people to fill in along the sides to fill in the field of vision.  By the way, it’s my son making a senior project so I am helping him out by finding extras.”

Well, we ended up going over to a section they needed warm bodies in and met a couple of other unfortunate families that got caught up in this web of a senior project.  We enjoyed talking and watched as the kids worked out all the details and then got ready to start shooting.  Here’s where the helicopter part comes in.  they shot the video with a drone.  That was pretty cool!

In the life of a church, we need all kinds of people for our spiritual senior project. Don’t believe me? Just Read Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12.  Some are going to be busy workers. Some are needed to encourage and get people to help with the life of the church.  Some are needed to just be there, and encourage those working and let them know they aren’t alone in what they are doing. When we all do our part, great things can be done for the kingdom. Everyone has a role, some are large and central, some are small.  Remember, it isn’t about who gets the most attention, it’s about are you doing what God has called you to do.

And never forget, there’s an eye in the sky watching over all of us and the part we play in the kingdom of God.

I’m wondering if we truly see ourselves as parts of the body to carry out Jesus’ mission. Or do we excuse ourselves or busy ourselves until the “calling” has passed.
